The SUSIEE project—short for Sustainability and Interculturality in 0–3 Early Childhood Education and Care—is more than just another EU initiative. Running from December 2023 to December 2025, it’s a passionate collaboration between Spain, Italy, and Hungary, aiming to reimagine early childhood education for our youngest learners. With a strong focus on sustainability and intercultural understanding, SUSIEE is building the future—right from the cradle.
Why It Matters: A Future-Focused Start for Every Child
In today’s fast-changing world, children from diverse cultural and linguistic backgrounds are entering education systems that often aren’t prepared to support their unique needs. Especially for children under 3, early education often overlooks the powerful impact of sustainability and cultural inclusion. SUSIEE steps in here—bridging that gap with thoughtful tools, training, and support to create nurturing, forward-looking environments for all.
What SUSIEE Aims to Do (And How It’s Doing It)
The project is ambitious—and rightly so. It’s not just about ideas; it’s about practical change:
Revisiting Standards: SUSIEE takes a fresh look at EU quality guidelines for 0–3 education, adding sustainability and interculturality into the mix using the GreenComp framework.
Empowering Educators: Through specially designed workshops, educators learn how to bring these values into everyday classroom moments.
Supporting Families: Resources and digital tools are developed with families in mind, especially those from migrant or ethnic minority backgrounds.
Connecting Sectors: SUSIEE encourages collaboration between education centers, NGOs, and local governments to boost inclusion across Europe.
Learning, Sharing, Growing: Activities That Make a Difference
It’s not all talk—SUSIEE’s work is hands-on:
Educator Training: 20-hour workshop programs equip professionals with real tools and activities to use with children and their families.
Workshops for Families: Sessions help children and their grown-ups explore sustainability and interculturality through play and communication.
App Launch: A multilingual digital app supports families through positive parenting tips, school transitions, and even includes translation support for smoother integration.
Toolkits for Change: What SUSIEE Offers
A practical handbook full of actionable advice and reflections for educators.
Guidelines that help integrate sustainable and intercultural values into day-to-day practice.
A family-focused app with an intuitive interface that makes navigating early childhood education smoother and friendlier.
Real Places, Real Impact
From Budapest to Bilbao, Palermo to Barcelona, pilot programs are already in motion. Educators, families, and children are shaping these ideas into something real—testing, adapting, and embedding the project’s values into daily routines. SUSIEE isn’t just building a model—it’s setting a European standard.
