CESIE ETS is a non-profit and non-governmental organisation based in Palermo, Italy, established in 2001. Starting from the inspiration of the work and life of the sociologist Danilo Dolci, CESIE’s mission is to support community development through innovative educational and engagement approaches, thereby contributing to the empowerment of individuals and their full participation in society. Beginning with an analysis of social needs and challenges, CESIE promotes collaboration among stakeholders, bridging the gap between research and action through the utilization of formal and non-formal methodologies, always valuing diversity.
The main pillars of action are: Education, Empowerment, Rights, Environment The organisational structure is divided into thematic units and departments working in synergy and managing activities in their specific fields:Adult education supports individuals in acquiring and developing basic skills and key competences, developing relevant and high-quality skills and competences in order to foster employability and socio-educational and personal development, as well as participation in civic and social life.
School education promotes quality, equitable and inclusive education within schools of all levels and grades, responding to the diversity of educational needs, and valuing the potential and identities of students.
Migration Unit is focusing on educating on differences, promoting educational paths of support, participation and orientation that respond to the needs of young people, adults, women and unaccompanied minors and that can foster greater autonomy in their life path.
Youth fosters educational and training activities for young people with different educational, cultural and social backgrounds and youth workers, focusing on transversal skills, social inclusion, critical and creative thinking and active citizenship.
Higher Education and Research contributes to fostering higher education and applied research in Europe and third countries, for development of innovative and knowledge society. The activities include ethics, gender issues, open data access, science education etc.
Rights and Justice is promoting equality, diversity and non-discrimination, raising awareness on gender equality from an intersectional and non-binary approach. Specific focus is on the prevention of all types of violence, including gender-based violence, child abuse, online/offline violence, supporting victims and survivors.
International Cooperation Department is promoting education as a tool for change and economic, social and cultural growth, with multilevel and multilateral approach of knowledge and skills sharing for the development of third countries.
Local Cooperation Department is promoting inclusive participatory processes to reduce poverty and educational inequalities using strategies and policies of intervention in the educational and socio-cultural field at local and national level.
The units are supported transversal offices: Visibility and Communication, Networking, HR, Financial.
Moreover, CESIE benefits from a broad network of partners with 3000+ civil society organisations,youth centres, social actors, schools, universities, research centres, public authorities, enter-prises and entrepreneurs in the world.
CESIE team is composed of 79 professionals with a wide range of qualifications, skills and profiles, united by a deep sharing of values that lead our activities, ensuring the operational capacity and the high impact of our actions. The team has an international character being composed by professionals from Italy, UK, Germany, France, Spain, Serbia, Greece, Lithuania, Nepal, Ukraine, Argentina, etc. CESIE is therefore a very concrete and positive example of European values. CESIE team relies also on 150+ external experts and dozens of interns and European and international volunteers engaged in internships at our organization every year.
